Reading Fencing clubs is always active with competitions against ourseleves and other clubs in the region.

This is for all those who fence Epee. Following his very successful day with us last year, we are very lucky to have David Keszler to lead the coaching once more.

Do you need a first aid course? We are hosting this official course. The cost will be £65 per person.
Armoury workshops – Andrew Goodier will be there to introduce armoury to anyone wanting to bring weapons along to work on, or just sit in and pick up tips. Also, if you have any armourers that would like to advance their knowledge, he will happily work with them on all types of equipment including club boxes etc
Cost: £10 for the Southern Region
Pentathlon GB are looking for volunteers to help referee at the National Tetrathlon Championships, being held on Saturday 21 April at the University of Bath.
It includes a full day’s épée fencing for the various age groups. The competition also includes swimming, shooting and running so it will be a busy day.

RFC hosted the latest set of matches with the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (RMAS) on Wednesday 14th March.
The match was open to intermediate-level fencers, with 2 of the RFC fencers coming from the current beginners course. The RFC teams were made up of:
RFC ‘A’ – Munawar Karim, Lewie Jackson and Rathish Punneli. RFC ‘B’ – Beau Rahim, Josh Jackson and Max Dutton. RFC ‘C’ – Oleg Fylpenko, Len Quinn and Simon Readman.
In the main team competition between the ‘A’ and ‘B’ teams of both sides, the RFC teams won one out of the four matches, with RMAS ‘A’ remaining unbeaten and claiming first place. RFC ‘A’ secured second place on points difference with RMAS ‘B’. The match results were:
RFC ‘A’ beat RMAS ‘B’ 45-28, but narrowly lost to RMAS ‘A’ in a tight fight 45-40. RFC ‘B’ lost to RMAS ‘A’ 45-32 and to RMAS ‘B’ 45-39.
The ‘C’ teams consisted of reserve fencers, with RMAS ‘C’ fielding two teams for this. RFC ‘C’ won both their matches, 45-38 and then 45-23.
Another round of matches will be arranged (dated TBA very soon), with the next match due to be hosted by RMAS.
The 2018 Southern Region Age Group Epee & Sabre Championships were held in Swindon last weekend, with several RFC fencers in action. There were places in the British Youth Championships on offer for those finishing in the top four.

Following the recent match hosted by RFC, we have already agreed provisional dates for the next round of matches, as we aim to continue holding these regularly in the year.
The next match will be hosted by RMAS on the evening of Wednesday 20 June 2018.
A return match will be held at RFC on the evening of Wednesday 11 July 2018.
These are open to fencers with up to 2 years experience. If you are interested in taking part, please either email the club or speak to Phil at the club.
Please note the sports hall will be unavailable on Monday 5th February, so there will be no fencing on this date.
