Reading Fencing clubs is always active with competitions against ourseleves and other clubs in the region.
In the epee age group events, there were 3rd place finishes in the U14 Boys for James Radford and Matthew Boyer, with Charlotte Williams claiming the silver medal in the U16 Girls. The Senior event was run mixed with Verity Hillier winning the Women?s title and coming third overall. For the men, 3 of the top 4 places went to RFC fencers ? Phil Barbasiewicz narrowly beat David Hillier 15-12 in an exciting final, with Lawrence Beadle claiming a bronze medal.
Well done Calum who came second at the Aldershot Open then won the Stirling Sword the following weekend.
Reading Fencing Club sent a team down to Egham Fencing Club on Friday 7 November in the second fixture of their 2014/15 season. The RFC team was made up of Phil Barbasiewicz, Jeff Rosenbaum and Will Ross. After starting off well in the match to go 9-6 up, we gradually fell behind and despite a flurry of hits in the latter stages of the match, it ended in a 45-38 defeat.
The December club competition will be delayed by a week until the 10th due to the match against Southampton Epee Club.
Junior festive bash is 3.30pm on Saturday 13th December at Reading Climbing Centre. Cost is ?22.50 each, which includes 90 minutes of climbing, equipment, instruction and pizza buffet tea. Please email the club, if you would like to come along.
RFC fencers have an away match against Egham FC on 7th November. Home matches are planned with Reading University and Southampton over the coming weeks.
We are in the Reading post. Reading Fencing Club hosted a match with Oxford Fencing Club (OFC) on Wednesday 29 October, which ended in an overall draw of 2-all. Two adult teams were fielded by each club. RFC ?A?, made up of David Hillier, Liz Sandford and Phil Barbasiewicz narrowly lost to OFC ?A? by a score of 45-43, whilst the RFC ?B? team ? Chris Greensides, Verity Hillier and Jeff Rosenbaum ? beat OFC ?B? 45-29. RFC?A? then beat OFC ?B? in a ?golden hit? decider, 42-41. RFC ?B? narrowly lost to OFC ?A? 37-36. An U18 pool unique was also run, with a RFC fencer ? Noam Rosenbaum ? winning all his fights, with Messina Karle of OFC coming second. A return match will be arranged for the New Year.
The RFC 2014 Christmas Dinner will be held at 7:00pm on Monday 15th December at Loch Fyne (http://www.lochfyneseafoodandgrill.co.uk/locations/reading) in Reading. All members are welcome to come and join in the fun! If you would like to come, then you will need to confirm your attendance by Wednesday the 3rd of December by emailing your menu choices to Verity and paying a ?5 cash deposit to Verity or a bank transfer to RFC. The menu can be found here. Please note there will be no fencing on this date as we will all be at Loch Fyne!. We will also be arranging a separate event for the younger members of the club.
