Reading Fencing clubs is always active with competitions against ourseleves and other clubs in the region.
This year the RFC Christmas meal will be on Monday 19th December at 6.30pm at Bill’s in Reading. All are welcome, but there is a separate Christmas event being organised for the juniors.
If you would like to join us, please confirm your attendance by Monday 5th December by emailing your menu choices to Verity (firstname.lastname@example.org) and paying a £5 cash deposit to Dave Hillier or a bank transfer to RFC. The menu can be found here and there are two slightly different three-course menu options for £22.95 or £27.95.
We have just had word from OFC that they do not have enough fencers for our friendly match scheduled for tomorrow (12 October). We will have regular training alongside Mick’s group lesson as usual; the match with Oxford will be rescheduled and we will announce the new date as soon as confirmed.
The county fencing championships are being held in Langley (just down the M4) on the 20th of November. This is small friendly competition normally won by someone from the club and is an ideal first competition. You can enter on line here https://bf.sport80.com/events. There will be an Indigo Escrime training camp running from Sunday 2 to Wednesday 5 April 2017 (3 nights, 4 days training) at Hartpury College, Hartpury, GL19 3BE.
The camp will be épée-focussed, with options to train for other Modern Pentathlon disciplines as required.
Cost: £330 which will include accommodation (full board) and all training. Snacks and water will be provided throughout the training period.

First, a return match has been arranged with Oxford Fencing Club for Wednesday 12 October 2016. The match will be hosted by RFC, with fencing due to start by 1945hrs. The format for the match will be confirmed nearer to the time, but will either be the team relay system or a pool unique. There will be no junior teams, although junior fencers are welcome to take part if they wish. If you would like to take part, please let Philippe know or email us.
After that, on Wednesday 9 November, we will be hosting another match - this time against Egham Fencing Club. Again, format to be confirmed but if you are interested in taking part please let Phil know or email us.
A final reminder that Alain and his wife Sarah will be taking part in Shine, Cancer Research UK’s marathon night walk, this coming weekend. Al will be walking in memory of Kev Griffiths (after whom the senior club competition trophy is named) and, as he has raised his target amount, will be doing so in fencing gear and lightsabre.
