BB&O Medal Haul

Well done to our fencers who took part in the BB&O County Championships earlier - Hannah Hornby (U14), James Radford (U14), Matthew Boyer (U16), Charlotte Williams (U16) and Alain Barbasiewicz (Men’s). Hannah, James, Charlotte and Alain all won gold medals!


Junior Team Silver

Well done to our U14 Epée Team who won silver yesterday at the Southern Region competition. Gregor MacLeod, Hannah Hornby and James Radford fenced very well together, winning two of their three matches.

Welsh Open

A good showing of Reading fencers at this year’s Welsh Open. In the ladies: Becky Mayle came 8th, Sam Hughes 18th, Jax Bowers 32nd. In the Mens: Calum Maynard 6th, Nick Dobie 16th, Rob Maclellan 22nd. Full results here.


GCSE Fencing

The Department of Education has announced that fencing, among other Olympic sports, are to be removed from the GCSE curriculum.

It is felt that this could be damaging to the sport, so Paul Sibert has started an online petition to attempt to get this reviewed. You can sign the petition here.


Rob wins the BRC

Another win at the weekend for Reading. Rob Maclennan won the Leon Paul BRC cadet mens epee beating George Morris in the final. Full results can be found here .

There was a good turn out of Reading fencers at the London International epee. Ladies: Jax Bowers L16, Verity Hillier and Odette Hornby L32, Rebecca Mayle and Sam Hughes L64. Mens: Ben Schneider and Edgar Hornby L16, Dave Hillier L32, Calum Maynard, Nick Dobbie, Felix Stansfield and Rob Maclennan L64 and Peter Robinson L128. The full results can be found here


RFC vs Egham

A team of fencers – Jeff Rosenbaum, Nigel Snell and Phil Barbasiewicz – travelled down to Egham Fencing Club for the first match of the season and made it a winning start, with the final score at the end of the evening being 13-9.
