Reading Fencing clubs is always active with competitions against ourseleves and other clubs in the region.
Well done to all our members who competed in the BYCs. James Radford (U14) came 14th, Charlotte WIlliams (U16) 21st, Noam Rosenbaum (U16) 21st, Felix Stansfield (U18) 10th, Ben Schneider (U18) won bronze and James Russell (U18) won silver. The full results can be found here.
Well done to Rebecca Mayle who came 6th at the National championships. Also competing were Ed Beaumont, Ben Schneider and Verity Hillier who got L32s; and Jax Bowers and Dave Hillier who got L64s. Bradley Sutton was also competing in Barcelona on the GB pentathlon team that came third at the World cup event.
One of our members, Odette Hornby, is raising money to do some volunteering in Tanzania this summer – she’ll be there 7 weeks, where Odette will be working on water sanitisation projects – the two main ones they have going at the moment are toilets for girls as they hit puberty, and an early years project. She has to fundraise £2500 in total; this goes directly to the projects and doesn’t go to her expenses. Odette recently completed a 5k run - despite having had swine flu - but still has a little way to go to her target. Please feel free to visit her Just Giving page.
A reminder that we will be holding an event - at our usual venue - on Sunday 22 May. Cost is only £20 for fencers, £10 for spectators, and includes all food and refreshments.
Format: there will be separate events for U13s (Size 2 blades) and Senior (Size 5 blades); entry will be limited to 36 and 24 respectively, with each group fencing in a poule unique before D.E. – so plenty of fencing!
