CLUB NIGHTS
The club fences in the sports hall of the Blue Coat School in Sonning (just outside Reading); the venue is light and airy and has good changing rooms and showers. We fence three nights a week from 7:30 to 10:00 with our junior members normally leaving between 8:30 and 9:00.
MONDAY
On Mondays one half of the hall is used to run our popular beginners course. The other half is used for free fencing (usually at least 7 pistes) and individual lessons from the coaches.
WEDNESDAY
On Wednesdays we have the whole hall for free fencing and individual lessons. We have recenty added an optional footwork session at the start of the evening; those who don't want to take part are encouraged to help set out the pisted and then start fencing straight away as soon as they arrive.
FRIDAY
Fridays are training nights, with the structure determined by whichever coach is running the session. The evenings generally begin with fitness training followed by foot and bladework exercises, then either free fencing or structured, tactical, bouting. Junior members are recommended to come along on Fridays to improve their technique and tactical awareness.
There are a total of 30 spaces on each beginners course. Each course that we have run is usually fully booked. Bookings are taken on a continuous basis throughout the year. To reserve your place on our next course, please send us a completed Joining Form and cheque; you may also email by here
